About the Dictionaries
Word++ makes use of freely accessible dictionaries available on the World Wide Web.
We strive to choose dictionaries that are best suited for quickly understanding the various
meanings of words, often with examples in context.
If you find our choice of dictionaries rather esoteric,
then write us!
Tell us where to find high-quality online dictionaries in your favorite language or subject areas.
We would also appreciate any input regarding bugs,
strange behavior, or suggestions for improvment.
Here's a little something about the dictionaries:
- WordNet®:
one of the most practical electronic English language dictionaries,
available online as well as for download. Developed by the Cognitive Sciences Laboratory at Princeton University.
We used a downloaded copy as our Basic Englishdictionary,
as well as a substitute when a word is not found in a subject-specific dictionary.
